My Journey
Welcome! My name is Jekisha Elliott! Before I learned about the profession of being a doula I worked with high-risk pregnant women who had suffered a loss either through a miscarriage or stillbirth. Many of them were not only suffering the loss of their child but also experiencing other issues that caused them to be lost in the healthcare system. As a community liaison, I worked with them to locate and receive community resources such as housing and transportation vouchers, pack and plays, clothing, etc. I began my journey to becoming a doula after working with the many women who needed assistance re-entering back into the healthcare system. I worked to provide them with community resources including mental health resources.
I became certified as a birth doula through Pro Doula. As a certified doula, I strive to offer physical and emotional support that encourages a woman to have a successful birthing experience through their eyes. I view each birthing experience as a way to be thankful for the many blessings that come from parents meeting their child for the first time.
I am an advocate for maternal and child health, as I want to be of service to women and families. I have an extensive background in Healthcare Administration working on various initiatives such as Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act. I have always been an advocate for working with underserved populations facing health disparities. These health disparities include Safe Sleep, care coordination, and management of healthcare services, insurance, and HIV education. I have also worked as a Special Needs teacher working with middle and high school students who had learning disabilities as well as those with Autism.
